Every day our bodies naturally detoxify. We are born with a powerful self- cleaning ability and it is a normal body response to eliminate or neutralize toxins through the colon, kidneys, lungs, lymph and skin.
But nowadays body systems and organs, that were once capable of cleaning out unwanted substances, are heavily overloaded by a polluted environment and an unhealthy diet. Consequently, many harmful toxins remain trapped in our body tissue. Our bodies protect us by surrounding these toxins with mucous or fat so they won’t harm us and cause an imbalance or trigger a damaging immune response.
Since it is not possible to live in a pollution-free environment and eat and drink only pure, uncontaminated food and water, the next best thing is to keep pollutants in our environment and in our foods to a minimum and to periodically get rid of them through a detox program.
A detoxification program aims to remove toxins to optimise a high immune response, regular elimination, optimal circulation and keep stress levels under control.
Every time you embark on a detoxification period it should contain these three main components:
Cleansing Rebuilding Maintaining
Cleaning your digestive tract is the best way to start. After your colon is functioning and eliminating more fully and you have started to experience the benefits of eating wholesome foods and regular exercise your next step is to clean your organs and other body systems.
